Everyone loves to tuck into their bed at the end of the day, relax in nice and warm bed sheets, and prepare yourself for some good quality sleeping. But what happens if you can’t get any shut eye, no matter what you do? Here are some unconventional sleep tips that will help you feel wide awake and rested during the day.

1. Get your worries out

It happens all to often that the minute you hit your pillow, you will start worrying and thinking about everything from your pets to your job to your social life. So in order to calm these anxieties before bed, allot a few minutes every day to write down your thoughts and feelings into a journal. This will relieve you of your thoughts, and keep you from thinking of them when all you want to do is sleep.

2. Valerian root

Many doctors and health care professionals believe that a Valerian supplement is a great way to promote restful sleep. It comes from the roof of the perennial plant, and can be found in pill form or you can seep it in tea.

3. Make your bed

It may sound easy, but a new set of bed sheets has the ability to change your mood tenfold. Especially linen sheet sets as they will keep you cool for longer, so you will not wake up hot in the middle of the night. Changing your bed sheets every week or so will help you sleep sounder and more comfortably! Plus, it doesn’t hurt to get a good quality mattress so you do not have aches and pains in the morning.

4. Stay away from the baths

A lot of bath enthusiasts believe that taking a hot bath before you fall asleep is crucial to soothe you to bed. But this is wrong, as your body needs to cool itself down to regulate its circadian rhythms. A bath will keep you awake for a lot longer than you expected, so take a bath about two hours before bedtime.

5. Use your pillows to your advantage

If you like to sleep on your back, place the pillows under your knees. If you sleep on your side, put a pillow between your knees, and if you lie flat on your back make sure your pillows are flat so your neck is not strained. This will give you proper back alignment, so you won’t be in pain the following morning!

Just keep these tips in mind and get ready for a nice night’s rest!
