In this video, we will take a look at how T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s have gotten so much success, and where they actually get most of their clothing from. Let’s get started.

The first way that off-price retailers get there clothing is from buying excess stock from bigger retailers. At the end of a certain selling season, T.J. will buy the remaining unsold merchandise for an extreme discounted price, bringing it onto their shelves. In some situations, these stores purchase items directly from manufacturers. This often occurs with smaller brands and home goods items. Finally, they also do a lot of private label work, hiring outside manufacturers to make brands just for their stores alone.
