Our sense of fashion informs a lot about our personalities. Graphic tees are a popular fashion accessory that can express our favourite fandoms, brands, memes, and even alcoholic preferences. If you can think of it, it can be printed on a t-shirt. Today, I’m specifically focusing merchandise promoting our favorite adult drink brands, and why they’re so popular.

Why are Corona Tank Tops So Popular?

From Corona tank tops to Budweiser trucker hats, everywhere you go you’re almost guaranteed to see someone sporting merchandise proclaiming their drinks of choice. But why? Like sports teams, people are develop loyalty to specific brands of beer or liquors. How many times have you heard someone proclaim the superiority of Budweiser over Guinness? (Or vice versa.) People can take their favourite drinks seriously, and it is that brand loyalty that prompts them to proclaim this in various forms of accessorizing. Additionally, the merchandise can also serve as a conversational piece for fellow enthusiasts, or enthusiasts of rival brands!

The Debate

There are some people who proclaim that the prevalence of t-shirts, baseball caps, and bathing suits that are printed with alcohol logos, contribute to underage drinking, by making it seem ‘cool’ or ‘trendy’. I would like to contend that, just as wearing a Star Trek shirt isn’t going to make someone run out and watch Wrath of Khan, wearing the logo of your favourite beer brand has little to no impact on the folks around you; aside from maybe starting a debate on why Corona is better than Budweiser. So the next time you head to the beach, feel free to wear your blue ribbon board shorts, and crack open a cold one with the boys.
