For some odd, wonderful reason, 2015 saw a major boom in pajamas onesies for adults. This year, it seemed like everyone was rocking the onesie, making it hard to pick just one favorite moment. Just how big was the onesie this year?
Well, on the runway, one piece items of clothing like overalls, rompers, and jumpsuits returned to the world of high fashion. A-List, B-List, and C-List celebrities alike showed up to red carpets rocking the fashion jumpsuit, while this was the Summer of the Romper. But when it comes to sleepwear, just as many celebs were rocking the adult pajama onesie this year.
The Kardashians collected a mind boggling number of shares, likes, and retweets for their Instagram snaps of themselves wearing chic pajamas, while Taylor Swift’s hashtag girl squad has been known to relax in a pair of festive flannel womens footed pajamas. Then in December, “Good Morning America” brought together a bevy of handsome male models to frolick and play the onesie way in New York City. These PJs for adults were named a top gift for the year.
Google also got in on the fun, naming adult pajama onesie the new “ugly Christmas sweater.” And the numbers don’t lie. Pajamas onesies were the #1 holiday search term on Google in the fashion category. But without a doubt, we know what our favorite onesie moment of the year was.
Earlier this year, Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta charmed the pants off the world with our favorite onesie moment, possibly ever. While the Cub’s Arrieta isn’t the first ball player to pitch a no hitter, he was the first to pitch a no hitter and then take a victory lap by showing up to the post-game press conference wearing a totally awesome mustache print onesie.
Popular sports blog SB Nation put it correctly at the time, writing, “Why does Jake Arrieta own a mustache onesie? Why did he decide to wear said onesie during an interview? None of these questions matter…”
All that matters? It was totally awesome. If 2016 sees as many handsome men in adult pajama onesies as 2015, then it’s shaping up to be a wonderful year indeed.
